We are discussing O-rings today. An O-ring, what the heck is that? The O-ring is a little elastic ring made of rubber that you find in many forms of equipment. It allows two things to fit together so closely that no spaces exist in which stuff can seep out. O-rings are crucial to every machine as they help parts of the machinery function well and avoid any liquids or gases from dripping out. The machines are not going to be functional as you want if O-ring is missed, and they may even break down.
The choosing right O-ring is very, very important. If you choose the incorrect size or category of O-ring, it might then contribute to breakage on your own machine as well as completely failure. The O-ring you choose must fit the requirement in terms of its size and be made out of materials that are compatible with requirements where they will encounter for use.
For instance, if your machine will be in a place with extremes of temperature such as very hot or cold spaces then you need an O-ring that is able to tolerate the temperatures of those places. And if its one that is not the best, it may melt and cause those problems to be very severe. If you are using your machine with chemicals, the O-ring must be made of materials that can resist them. The wrong O-ring can cause leaks and other issues, so it is important to select wisely.
Incorrect Installation: A bad O-ring installation can lead to leaks and other problems. When you install an O-ring, always follow the instructions that come with it. If you want to save your time later, pay attention to all installation steps.
Dirt or Debris – Dirt and debris can lodge itself into the O-ring causing failure. This is the reason why it is so significant to keep clean and free of dust or dirt on some places where you want to put your seal ring. Then the O-ring should function properly as it is supposed to.
Wear and Tear: O-rings do degrade over time, especially when exposed to high heat, pressure or aggressive chemicals. I check the O-ring once in awhile to see if it should still be replaced. If it looks cracked or damaged at all, you should replace that so no issues and house fires happen.
Lubricate the O-ring with a compatible lubricant in order to assist in installation. This will help the O-ring sit correctly during installation, which makes it much easier and less likely for you to pinch up or tear your O-rings while mounting.
