Have you ever wondered how those little rings that go onto bolts and nuts are made? This has led to the question of what these little rings are because they are known as washer rings, and they are really important to a lot of machines and buildings you see. Things wouldn’t hold together quite as well without them. So come along on a fun tour of the Hovoo washer ring and see just how these critical parts are made!
In the Hovoo factory, washer rings are made in great quantity here every day. So the process starts with a massive roll of metal that resembles a giant roll of film. Instead, that big roll of metal gets put into a special machine called a stamping machine. (My favorite part is the punch die, which cuts the metal into round shapes with a very sharp part.) These small circles, called washers, are the starter point from which washer rings are formed. After the metal is cut into circles, it is prepared for the next step in the process.
Hovoo’s engineers are responsible for the careful manipulation of the washer rings. Washer rings need to be strong so they can hold heavy things without breaking. The engineers design the washer rings to get fit perfectly with the bolts and nuts they work with. And they consider a range of other items that might happen to the washer rings, such as rust as time goes on or wear and tear from use. By anticipating such problems, the engineers help ensure that the washer rings will last a long time and perform their function well.”
Once the stamped round pieces of metal have been cut by the stamping machine they then enter another key machine, the forming press. This press flattens out the circular shapes and prepares them for the next phase in their journey. Then they pass through yet another machine that bends them into the curved profile of a washer ring. This angle is critical to how the washer ring will operate when installed. After shaping, the washer rings are heated to a certain temperature. After being heated, they are rushed through cooling by dipping into oil. This process is known as quenching, and it also gives the washer rings much of the strength required to support heavy loads.
Washer rings may be small, but they play an important role in allowing many small things to function as they should. They are found in all sorts of machines, from cars to large construction equipment.” For instance, washer rings are used in automotive engines to keep everything tight and in checkout while the car is driving. They are also used to build objects like bridges and high-rise buildings, where they help keep the bolt and nut system from loosening due to shaking or vibrations of such structures. Without washer rings, the safety or sturdiness of many items may be impacted, especially everyday things.
