Most seal kit complaints trace back to a simple problem: the kit didn't include everything the application actually requires. A kit labeled 'complete' for an RD18U that omits the accumulator diaphragm isn't complete — it's a partial kit with a misleading name. The accumulator diaphragm and pre-charge valve seal are the two most commonly excluded components in budget kits, and they are also the two components whose failure causes the most consequential downstream damage. A failed diaphragm at 4–6 bar N₂ pre-charge causes percussion pressure cycling that fails the percussion bore seals within 60–80 hours.
For a medium-class underground drifter like the Atlas Copco RD22U or Sandvik DD2710, a genuinely complete seal kit covers five circuits: the percussion circuit, the rotation circuit, the feed circuit, the flushing water circuit, and the accumulator assembly. The percussion circuit alone contains 8–12 individual seal elements depending on model generation. Kits covering fewer than 4 of these 5 circuits should be scoped as partial kits in the maintenance plan, with the excluded circuits on separate replacement tracking.
