BICES 2025: Beijing's Benchmark for China's Construction Machinery Industry

Apr.15.2026

China has the largest construction machinery market in the world. It produces more excavators, loaders, cranes, and concrete equipment than any other country, and its domestic brands — SANY, XCMG, Zoomlion, LiuGong — have grown from regional players into genuine global manufacturers over the past two decades. Understanding the direction of that industry means paying attention to BICES.

The China (Beijing) International Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines and Mining Machines Exhibition — universally abbreviated to BICES — ran September 23 to 26, 2025, at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing's Shunyi district. It was the 17th edition of a show that traces its history back to 1989, when China's Ministry of Machinery first organised a domestic product and technology exhibition. Today it draws over 1,000 exhibitors, 150,000 visitors, and spans roughly 150,000 square meters of combined indoor and outdoor space. It is the first construction machinery exhibition in China to hold UFI certification — the international trade fair industry's primary quality standard.

What BICES Represents in the Industry

The show is organised by the China Construction Machinery Association (CCMA), China Construction Machinery Co. Ltd., and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade's Machinery Sub-Council. That institutional backing means BICES functions as more than a commercial exhibition — it's the platform where industry policy direction gets signalled, where new technical standards are announced, and where the largest Chinese OEMs make coordinated product launches. When SANY, XCMG, Zoomlion, and Komatsu China all exhibit at the same show in the same week, the combined product announcements become a de facto industry review.

The 2025 theme was 'High-End Green, Smart Future' — a phrase that reflects the two pressures simultaneously reshaping Chinese construction machinery: environmental regulation and digital transformation. China has introduced progressively tighter emissions standards for non-road machinery, effectively forcing the entire fleet to upgrade. At the same time, electrification and intelligent control systems are moving from concept to commercial product faster in China than in most other markets.

Four Theme Pavilions

BICES 2025 structured its floor around four thematic pavilions: Green Development, Great Power Weighs Heavy (covering major infrastructure equipment), High-End Supporting and Strong Foundation Engineering, and Intelligence and Industrial Internet. That structure reflects where Chinese manufacturers are investing — the smart and green categories attracted the densest cluster of product launches, with multiple OEMs competing to demonstrate autonomous excavator functions, energy-recovery systems, and electrified compact machines.

The outdoor exhibition area accommodated large equipment that can't be meaningfully displayed indoors. Crawler cranes, large excavators, and road machinery ran live demonstrations across the outdoor lots throughout the four days. Thirteen special areas within the show addressed specific subsectors: remanufacturing, the supply chain, hydraulics and components, mining machinery, and others. That granularity reflects the maturity of the Chinese market — buyers at BICES are often looking for specific component suppliers, not just finished machines.

International Participation

Past BICES editions have drawn exhibitors from Germany, the United States, Japan, South Korea, India, Turkey, Spain, and across Southeast Asia. The international component serves a different function from purely domestic Chinese shows: it allows Chinese OEMs to benchmark against global competitors, and it gives international suppliers access to one of the most demanding and technically sophisticated machinery buyer populations in the world. For component and attachment manufacturers, BICES is where relationships with Chinese assembly partners get initiated or reinforced.

Why BICES Matters Beyond China

Chinese construction machinery brands are not staying in China. SANY, XCMG, Zoomlion, and Lonking have all significantly expanded their international sales networks over the past decade, with particularly strong growth across Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. The products launched at BICES 2025 will appear in markets worldwide within twelve to eighteen months. For international competitors, understanding what Chinese manufacturers showed in Beijing provides advance intelligence on what they'll be competing against in third markets.

For hydraulic breaker and attachment suppliers, BICES is particularly relevant as an entry point to the Chinese market's large, established attachment distribution networks — and as a window onto how Chinese-manufactured hydraulic breakers are evolving. Chinese hydraulic breaker production has grown substantially, with domestic brands increasingly competitive on price and improving in quality. Understanding that competitive landscape, and positioning differentiated product features at the show, is one of the more direct ways international attachment manufacturers can establish themselves ahead of the next BICES cycle, scheduled for 2027.
