Nitrogen: Why the Pressure Window Is Narrow

Nitrogen does two jobs inside a hydraulic breaker. In the back head, it stores compressed energy — as the piston travels upward, it compresses the nitrogen like a spring. On the downstroke, that stored energy releases and adds to the hydraulic oil's force, multiplying impact energy. In the accumulator mid-cylinder, nitrogen captures the piston's recoil from the previous blow and feeds it back into the next one.

The back head charge on most models sits at 2.5 ±0.5 MPa before operation. Too low and the accumulator pressure drops, the striking force weakens, and the breaker hammers harder against its own internal components to compensate. Too high and the hydraulic oil pressure can't push the piston upward to compress the gas — the accumulator stops functioning entirely and the breaker stops working. That's not a degraded state. That's a stopped machine. Always use industrial-grade nitrogen. Compressed air contains moisture and oxygen that damage the internal system and reduce efficiency — it is not a substitute.
