High-Reliability Travel Motor of Sandvik DD2710 in Poland

The DD2710 is a wheeled jumbo—it trams on rubber tires rather than crawling on tracks—and in Polish underground copper mining at KGHM's Lubin and Sieroszowice operations, tramming performance is a critical operational metric. KGHM's flat-lying copper ore deposits in the Legnica-Głogów Copper Belt require development headings to advance at consistent rates to keep production stoping panels supplied. The DD2710 trams up to 2.5 km between the maintenance bay and the active face; a travel motor that underperforms doesn't just slow the tram cycle—it creates a production gap between the maintenance interval and the face arrival that accumulates across a fleet of 15–20 jumbos.

The travel motor drives the DD2710's front or rear axle through the transmission, providing the torque and speed required for a 12–15 tonne machine to navigate 10–12% grades in copper mine ramps. The motor's internal seal condition determines how much hydraulic flow converts to axle torque versus bypass back to the return circuit. A travel motor with 10% internal bypass delivers 10% less traction force for the same pump output—which may be adequate on flat access roads but inadequate on the steepest ramp grades in the mine.

KGHM's fleet management system logs each DD2710's 100-meter tram test time at the start of each shift—a 2-minute test run before the rig enters the heading. Units whose tram time has increased by more than 12% over the baseline are flagged for travel motor drain flow testing before the next shift. HOVOO supplies DD2710 travel motor seal kits and internal rebuild components for KGHM's Polish copper mining fleet. References at hovooseal.com.
